Blog Candy Giveaway!

One last weekend of running around and then I'm home for the winter! YAY! I love cabin & junking season but there's something to be said for settling in and nesting for the winter. I'm heading up to the cabin to help close it down this weekend.

While I'm gone I decided to do a giveaway for a Crafty Secrets "Journaling" set. This set is the one that has that wonderful script stamp that I've been using constantly. If you didn't get a chance to see my tutorial on glimmer misted script paper, you can see it HERE.

I'll do the drawing on Monday night. Leave me a comment and let me know what your most cherished vintage item is...it could be from a Grandmother or Mother, or something old and fun that you've scored in your junking or yard-sale-ing adventures! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Ok, I have 2 cherished items from my Grandmother (who would have been 118 next month if she was still with us and my math is right)
The first is a ring - small, gold, with an oval but pointed at the ends green stone surrounded by mini (really mini) pearls. I think it was my aunt's but she left it behind when she entered the convent.
The second is my grandmother's set of crochet hooks. THey are so thin, I cannot imagine trying to use them any more - my arms have gotten awflly short - but one year I made a bunch of snowflakes. Wonder where those are? Because the hooks are so thin, they come in handy for getting all sorts of things into position or out of where they don't belong.

My favorite items are from my grandmother too. She was an expert crocheter and taught me when I was very young. I have many doilies and pillowcases edged with cotton lace that she made.

My most cherished item from my grandmother is my very first watch - no it doesn't work anymore but I kept it. She gave it to me one Christmas, we snuck into her bedroom where nobody could see us and she had it all wrapped up in pretty paper! She gave it to me and told me not to tell any of my cousins (I'm an only child) that she got me an "extra" that year.

Oh, that little cherub would look so great in my daughter's scrapbook!!! My most cherished vintage item is a jewelry box that was my mom's. My dad gave it to her when they were engaged and he said that he hoped that someday the box would be filled with fine jewelry for my mom.
Thanks!

What a fabulous stamp set. I have some hand crocheted doilies that my Great Grandmother made! She was a funny lady and used to tell me dirty jokes when I was a Teenager. She had an indentation in her thumb from all the crocheting!! I love her and miss her!

I have quite a few vintage items that I love, but among them are two antigue benches (I call them sit-benches) that still have the orignal paint--one baby blue, one green-- that sit along the long sides of my dining room table. They are wonderful when family is over, and everyone crowds around the table.

I also love my collection of vintage children's blocks and a collection of old type-print letter block stamps...so many decorating possibilities.

I just love your shabby chick style--Thanks for sharing it.

I have a huge sugar bowl, minus the lid which belonged to one of my great grandmothers and a few of my mother's things from the forties and fifties. Although I own many other vintage items, these are the most precious to me.

My favorite thing is my 50's dining roon set that belong to my grandmother and I got when she passed on, plus her hats from the 20's. I also love my milk glass collection that I have sitting on top of an 80 year old piano. Susan

Hi Lisa,
My most cherished vintage item is a ruby ring that my godmother gave me. It was her birthstone ring. It's a striking color red, with two small diamond chips, and it's very special to me.

Thanks for sharing!

What a sweet stamp set. I love how you have used this set. Count me in! I thing that I cherish that my grandmother gave me is a ballerina figurine that I just love. I would run in her house and make sure this ballerina was still there every trip. Thanks for a chance.

My favorite item (not sure it would be "vintage") is my gold baby ring. It's simple with a small white stone in the center and what looks like a leaf design on either side. I continued wearing it on my pinkey for as long as I could, now I'm afraid the prongs are worn out and have put it away...

I was recently forced to take possession of all kinds of things passed to me from my grandparents and great aunts and uncles (my folks were "storing" them for me!) Someday I hope to have room to display/use them, but for now most are packed away. My favorites are some of the china and crystal, and the hand-crocheted doilies and table linens.

Oh-I am such a collector of stuff. It would be hard to say just one thing but I took all the things left in my gramma's sewing basket when she died-needles, scissors, thread etc-and put them in a shadowbox. it sits over a table with the actual sewing basket full of yarn balls. I was 12 when she died, so this is almost 45 years old now but well preserved. she taught me how to sew and I made a bag for her curlers the first time I used a sewing machine at 6. I wish I had that still.

Jennie said...

I so love that stamp set. Love what you did with it also.
I would have to say the most cherished thing is my grandmothers ring that she had made with my grandfathers wedding rings when he passed away. My mother received it when my grandmother passed away and now my mother gave it to me.
That is so sweet of you to give that stamp set away. Way too cool.

I loved both of my grandmothers so much and was so lucky to have both of them until I was in my 40's. I have both of their music boxes that used to sit on their dressing tables and these 2 vintage items mean the world to me. Every once in awhile, one of the music boxes will suddenly start to play all by itself for a few seconds letting me know that my grandmothers are still close by.

My most cherished item is the torn page from the immigrants log from Ellis Island showing my grandfather's name when he came to this country in 1917 at 17 years old by himself.

My most favorite item that I recieved when my Oma died, was a figurine of a ballerina. It is a really rough sculpture, and my husband says it's ugly, but I love it. Every time I see it I think of sitting on her lap and holding the ballerina together. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!

I have many family treasures passed down over the years (that I hope my kids won't sell at a garage sale when I'm gone!) but my newest score was a "nun's table". I walked in to a craft store and there she was, used in a display, with a great price! I think it was used as a bedside table-very useful with it's drawers & cupboard bottom. My husband and I named her Sister Mary Margaret. Sister is in my scrap studio with my BigKick on top and all of the dies in the drawers and cupboard.
I have been buying some Crafty Secrets stamps but I don't have this adorable set. I love all of your projects Lisa, and your terrific sense of humor! Thanks for the chance to win.

I love you blog because it gives me so much inspiration. Our stamping styles are very similar even though you are much more talented. Thanks for doing the blog.

My most cherished item is my Mom's wedding rings. My parents were very far from wealthy having married during the Depression. Both are gone now but I have my Mom's wedding rings. They are worn and thin. She had the engagement ring and the wedding band soldered together at one point in time.

To me they represent the long years of hard work she and my Dad put in. I also think of how kind, tender, warm and loving her work-worn hands were.

Thanks - Jackie

My most cherished vintage item has got to me an old Bible that I inherited from my moms side of the family. It was and still is used as a booster seat at all the "special" family meals.

I have a beautiful sterling silver & marcasite ring with a diachroic glass "stone" in it that I got from my grandmother's collection of jewelry when she passed away. She had so much jewelry, it covered two double beds when it was all spread out. I was not there to pick something, so my mom chose that for me with a few other things. Most of what she had was just junk, but that ring was so unique and I've never seen another like it.

The flour/sugar cannisters my mother had from her '50's kitchen. They were red to match the kitchen. They're beat up but still great to hold crafting stuff in.

I have many cherished items, not necessarily vinatage. I have my baby quilt that my great grandma made me and also a tea cup of hers. I have doilies that my grandma made that I will cherish forever (she passed away a month ago) and also a crocheted baby hat that she made many of for the babies born in the hospital.
I also have some vintage satin and silk "ribbons" (they are actually seam bindings) that I LOVE!! Found them for a steal of a price at a second hand store.

At first I was at a loss...but the more I thought about it...probably ONE of my most cherished vintage items is a handmade wooden doll crib that my great-grandfather made when my mom was a little girl. I used it for my dolls when I was little, and now it sits in my daughters bedroom now.

My cherished item from my grandmother on my mom's side is a quilted baby blanket she made for me to use when I played dolls. also, I have handwritten recipes that she wrote. Some of them are fading..it was "cool" to write with those erasable pens and those are the ones that are fading.
My cherished item from my grandmother on my dad's side is a quilt that she had cut out the squares for and my aunt had it made into a quilt and it was given to me as a wedding present.

My most special vintage item is my great-great-grandmother's Opal wedding ring. I have a photo of her wearing it. It was passed down to me when I was 18 and along with it was a sweet note to me written by my gramma before she died. I think both the ring and the note are equally special.

Thanks for inspiring my creativity everyday with your blog!

Well what I cherish the most is not really vintage but its more then 10 yrs. old.. It is this lil rag doll that you can wind up my first "real love" had gotten it for me from this funky flower shop that I always went to and I would always see that doll though I was 17 I think I always loved that doll one day for no reason I got a flower delivery and w/my Cali lilies was my dollie..I LOVE that doll so much..and though I've moved and have had so much happened in my life I carry her whereever I've gone and whenever I've been sad I wind her up and she plays her melody for me and it makes everything seem alright.. I actually introduced my dollie to my baby DD who is now 9 months old and when I played it for her I got the most beautiful smile ever from my lil DD.. It was priceless so one day I will give my dollie to her and hope she cherishes her as much as I have loved my dollie all these yrs.

I have something from each of my grandmothers that I cherish. My paternal grandmother was a china painter, so I have a tremendous amount of plates, cups, vases, and bowls that she painted, and my mother and sister-in-law have numerous chinai painted items also. My grandmother loved to paint roses, and I have a set of 12 plates, each with a different colored rose. My maternal grandmother was an excellent seamstress - always making clothes for me, and a matching outfit for my *walking doll* that I had - sadly, all of those clothes have passed into oblivion, but I do have a wonderful *fancy* pin cushion that she used for needles, safety pins, and hat pins. It has embroidery and ribbon on the oblong cushion, and tatted lace around the edges. It feels like it is filled with straw or husks of some sort. I cherish all of these items. My grandmothers were both born in the 19th century, and my maternal grandmother almost made it to the 21st century. She passed away in 1998, at the age of 103. I still miss both of my grandmother so much.

I have a Chinese doll that was a gift to my mother during her pregnancy with me -- the doll came from a wonderful Chinese man that my father corresponded (by mail) for over 40 years. The doll sits above our piano, where my new Chinese doll play -- my goddaughter, adopted by good friends over 5 years ago from mainland China.....it is wonderful how history can repeat itself.

Oh, this is hard - I have a number of items from my mom and my grandmothers. I have a phone bench of my mother's that is quite unusual; I have the pitcher and bowl that my dad was washed in as a baby; and I have gold ball stud earrings that my grandfather gave my grandmother; plus a slew of other items out of my father's grocery store.

Love this stamp set - so cute.

I love my old doll clothes that my Nan from England gave to me when I was first born. Just adorable. Then, one of my favorite "junkin' " finds was an old crank telephone box. No parts, just the big wooden box that mounted onto the wall. When we unscrewed the back off to clean the wood...all the parts were inside wrapped in old wax paper from the original packaging! The crank, mouthpiece, the two black bells for the ringer....just awesome!
Not too bad for $10.00!!

I have three things that I cherish. The first one is a ceramic frog that my grandmother painted when she went through her ceramic phase (didn't all grandmothers go through that?) The frog sits in my garden under a fern. It's moved with me over 5 times now in 25 years.
The second item is my mother's wedding gown. I wore it for my wedding 20 years ago and I hope that my daughters will each wear it for theirs. It came right off the cover of Brides Magazine in 1960.
The third is the silver rosary my mother kept with her until she died 2 years ago. It's precious to me. Thanks for your blog. I love it!

My favorite "vintage" item might notbe truly vintage but it means a lot to me. My father was raised by his grandparents and every day he used to look out the picture window in the back until my great-grandfather came home. So my great-grandfather built him a little chair to sit on while he was waiting. My dad is so "tough" so I just loved the story behind it.

TFS your amazing creativity with us Lisa! I LOVE your blog and faithfully visit every day :-)

Hi Lisa!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog!!!Thanks for sharing your talent so much with us, and now this great blog candy! It's the icing on the cake!!!

My most treasured "vintage" (antique, actually) item is a set of three bedroom pieces (vanity, chest of drawers & highboy), with matching mirrors, that came from my (maternal) great-great-grandparents' home in Annapolis, MD! I'm so honored to have these mid-1800's pieces, I still pinch myself to see if it's a dream! They are now in my own bedroom. I hope my g-g-g-parents know how much I'm enjoying them!

The other "most-treasured" item I have is a set of lead candy molds that came from my (paternal) great-great grandfather's candy shop in New York state. Though I can't use them to mold candy (for health reasons), I am planning to create a set of Christmas ornaments from them, using polymer clay, and give the sets to my dad and all of my siblings for Christmas this year!

Thanks again for the fun opportunity to win such a great stamp set! I LOVE Crafty Secrets things and what I've seen you do with them!!!

Blessings,

M.

I think my most favorite vintage item is a ring from my MIL. I received it from my SIL when my MIL passed away. It is a cheap ring with a huge fake stone. It is gaudy but chic, in a shabbychic kind of way. Know what I mean???? I really love it.

AND, my MIL gave me a pin from Thailand when I got engaged to my DH....30 years ago. She received it as a gift. It is of a dancing girl. It is old, old, old....and very shabbychic. Love it!
